The project's purpose is to enhance understanding and operations of the Snohoosh Reservoir, fortify watershed resiliency amid a changing climate, and elevate Skeetchestn stewardship through monitoring, planning, and data management. The Deadman River watershed is integral to the Skeetchestn peoples, intertwining with their land, language, and cultural practices. Despite being adversely affected by recent wildfires and anthropogenic activities, such as logging and agriculture, the watershed continues to be vital for sustaining the community through fishing, hunting, and plant gathering. Given these challenges, there is a crucial need to enhance the understanding and operations of the Snohoosh Reservoir. This Indigenous-led project, maintained by Skeetchestn, seeks to achieve these objectives through continuous monitoring. The collected data will inform updates to the reservoir management plan, the development of a data dashboard, operational decision-making tools, and strategies to plan for and mitigate future climate changes. In alignment with Skeetchestn Natural Resource and Economic Development Planning, the project aims to assert control over resources within the traditional territory and actively participate in the sustainable management of ecosystems and water resources.
