The purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive watershed management framework for the kinosew sîpîy/whutone gah saghé/Murray River watershed that is Indigenous-led and includes Indigenous values, knowledge, and priorities. This project aims to create an Indigenous-led watershed management framework incorporating Indigenous values and knowledge, focusing initially on the kinosew sîpîy / whutone gah saghé / Murray River watershed and potentially expanding to the Pine River watershed. The framework will address guiding principles, a management structure, authority and decision-making processes, scope, a workplan for assessments and climate health action, operational requirements, and a funding model. Critical for the protection and renewal of the kinosew sîpîy / whutone gah saghé / Murray River watershed, the project seeks to sustain the health of unaffected areas, restore impacted zones, and enhance overall watershed resilience. This initiative is integral to supporting Indigenous culture, exercising Treaty 8 rights, and ensuring the well-being of current and future generations.
