This project is upgrading and expanding the Indigenous-led monitoring program for the Nechako Watershed. This project builds upon monitoring program's progress, propelled by 2021-22 HWI funding. The project aims to fill expertise gaps in technical fieldwork and data management, strengthening leadership in the UFFCA and partner organizations. Additionally, it prioritizes recruitment and training for capacity building, develops a data-sharing system, and conducts program upgrades for optimal data quality. The project also provides mentorship for future watershed stewards, supports UNDRIP, incorporates Indigenous knowledge and laws, builds and strengthens partnerships, connects communities to their land, cultures, languages, and traditions, offers crucial information for watershed restoration, supports watershed stewardship or guardian programs, aids watershed planning with high-quality data, provides data for climate adaptation and mitigation planning, and engages communities in education on watershed health.
