The purpose of this project is to decolonize the three main watersheds of e ts'ikt'akis (Atleo), uu7inmitis (Bedwell), and wa7uus (Cypre) in Clayoquot Sound. This will be achieved through salmon enhancement, clam garden repatriation, and the restoration of culturally significant plants. The Indigenous Watersheds Initiative Application, dated March 2023, provides further details. These three watersheds have suffered degradation due to ongoing colonial destructive impacts, including logging, overfishing, and a decline in spawning salmon numbers. This decline is a result of the cumulative effects of colonization. Simultaneously, the Ahousaht community and family structures have been severely damaged by various oppressive forces such as the residential school system, Indian foster care, racism, and environmental injustices. The ASRRP will prioritize youth engagements to facilitate their entry into Stewardship professions. This will be achieved through scholarship awards and the Junior Guardian program, thereby ensuring a secure career pathway for the younger generation.
