Kiyawmks Spring Creek (Spring Creek) and Willow Creek, both located in Kitsumkalum Laxgibuu (Wolf) clan territory, are low-elevation, groundwater streams. Willow Creek, a small tributary of Spring Creek, flows into the Kitsumkalum River and eventually the Skeena River. Historically, Kiyawmks Creek provided crucial spawning, rearing, and refugia habitat for various salmon species, Dolly Varden, and Cutthroat trout. However, both creeks have been significantly impacted by urban development, agriculture, and forestry, leading to invasive plant populations, increased sedimentation, and alterations to stream characteristics. The Kiyawmks Spring Creek Salmon Habitat Restoration Project aims to enhance fish habitat quality by addressing these issues through a comprehensive approach, including community outreach, stream assessments, and collaboration with forestry professionals.
