The purpose of this project is to develop a community-based approach for implementing updated Great Bear Rainforest Land Use Objectives (GBR LUO) and completing assessments of overall health in important fisheries watersheds in the Kitasoo Xai’xais territory. How important fisheries watersheds are managed at a watershed scale has been a gap in the GBR EBM framework. With leadership from Kitasoo Xai’xais and other coastal Nations, the updated 2023 GBR LUO has new objectives for watershed assessments and planning to help address this gap. This project will develop a community-based approach for implementing these objectives and completing assessments of overall health in Important Fisheries Watersheds, identifying any potential impacts from proposed developments (watershed assessments) in the Kitasoo Xai’xais territory.
