Hwial'asmut tu tumuhw (Taking Care of the Earth)

Stqeeye' Learning Society

Hwial’asmut tu tumuhw (Taking Care of the Earth) is a Quw'utsun snuw uy ulh (sacred law), and is the foundation of all of the work being undertaken by Xwaaqw’um. It reminds of responsibilities to the land, ancestors and people to always circle back to the ways of caring for the land that have been passed down since time immemorial. This project centers Hwial’asmut tu tumuhw in a range of stewardship activities and goals. These include the restoration of Xwaaqw’um (Burgoyne Bay), watershed monitoring, the creation of an Indigenous youth guardian program, and building of partnerships with local community and government partners.
