Blueberry River Watershed Stewardship Project

Blueberry River First Nations

The purpose of this project is to build Blueberry River First Nations’ (BRFN) capacity to undertake freshwater monitoring in our territory and support the collection of freshwater data to inform stewardship and restoration in the Blueberry River Watershed. Extensive industrial resource activity and agriculture have coincided with changes in the quantity and quality of water in BRFN territory, severely impacting the health of watersheds and affecting the continuity of cultural practices. Healthy watersheds are of central importance to the lives of BRFN community members and critical to the continued practice of BRFN members’ inherent and treaty rights. This project will contribute to increasing community engagement and participation in monitoring and collaborative data collection and supporting community-led stewardship and restoration of aquatic ecosystems.
