The vision of the Wilp Gwininitxw Hla’ Am Wil Project is to facilitate Gitxsan cultural resurgence, focusing on Wilp Gwininitxw and our upper Skeena area territories, Galaanhl Giist, and Maxhla Didaat, along with their resources. The project aligns with Gitxsan Ayookxw (Gitxsan laws), Adaawx (Wilp Gwininitxw’s oral histories), environmental histories, and the aspirations of our Wilp.

The overall purpose is to implement the transformative Hla’ Am Wil project, combining Gwalx Yee’insxw and Gitxsan laws with traditional knowledge and technical support, including scientific geodatabases, field data collection, analysis, mapping, and reporting. This approach supports Wilp decision-making based on their desires and needs, aiming for a just transition into the future, focusing on Gwininitxw Peoples’ cultural resurgence and strategic management of territorial lands, waters, and resources.

Gwininitxw seeks funding support for the Hla’ Am Wil 2023-24 Project in Maxhla Didaat and Galaanhl Giist territories. The project aims to reconnect Wilp leadership and members to ancestral territories, collecting cultural and ecological monitoring data to achieve territorial planning for governance, informed decision-making, and the health of Wilp members and Gitxsan culture. Goals also include reconstructing cultural roles, responsibilities, life ways, considering climate change impacts, and celebrating the spirit of the land and resources.
